Faith Evans’ Daughter Chyna Tahjere Griffin Is An Emerging Artist

Chyna Tahjere Griffin is not a new name in the music industry. She is the daughter of the great R&B artist and actress, Faith Evans. It seems the apple did not fall far from the tree, as Chyna is also a surging artist and songwriter who has been a part of songs like I Wish and Alright.

She will have big shoes to fill as her mother is one of the biggest stars in the music industry with a great array of songs to her name. Keeping that aside, let’s take a look at Chyna’s personal life, including her upbringing and her career till now.

She is also the step-daughter of the late legendary East Coast rapper, The Notorious B.I.G. or Christopher George Latore Wallace. She was only a year old when her mother married the late rapper. Her time with Biggie was short-lived, as the artist was murdered in 1997. At the time, Griffin was only four years old.

She Has Multiple Siblings From Her Parents’ Other Relationships

Faith has been married three times, and Chyna’s father went on to marry Ashley Griffin after parting ways with her. So, Chyna has multiple siblings from both of her parents’ sides. From her father’s side, the budding artist has four half-sisters: Xaria, Sky, Eirene, and Dove Griffin.

As from her mother Faith’s side, Chyna has one half-brother, Christopher Wallace Jr from her mother’s marriage to Biggie. She also has two half-brothers, Joshua Russaw, and Ryder Evan Russaw, from her marriage to Todd Russaw.

Chyna Tahjere Griffin Has Been Into Music Since Her Early Days

Given her musical roots, it is no wonder that Chyna has inherited a passion for music since she was a child. Her mom surely left an impression on her, as Chyna was always around when Faith recorded her first three albums. Faith also brought her a keyboard, and that motivated her to learn even more.

She also credited her father as he was a singer and producer. In an interview, she jokingly stated that with parents like them, she was bound to get dragged to the studio anyway.

Her music environment paved the way for her interests, and she gradually delved deeper. She began writing songs at the age of four and taught herself to play the keyboard by ear at seven. She could even arrange beats by ten.

Talking about her education, she attended NYU’s Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music. She studied music theory to refine her musical talents and collaborate with other young artists in the country.

It is no wonder the young prodigy became so much involved in music.

Inspiration Behind Her Name

Since finding success early on, she decided to use part of her middle name as her alias. As per Thisis50, she decided on it because it stood out, and she shortened it a bit to Tahj because she liked the flow of it. She liked the idea of a one-word stage name like Madonna, which sounded better. In her own words,

My middle name is Tahjere and when trying to find myself as an artist, that was like the first name I could think of — Tahjere — because I thought it stood out.[…] But one day somebody started calling me Tahjere the Great […] and I shortened it to Tahj the Great just because it flows a little better.”

Her Works Over The Years

Chyna officially began her musical career in the early 2010s. In January 2012, she released her debut EP, Femme Fever, under the alias “Chyna Doll,” which also included her first single, Grown Lady

She also has another album to her name titled “The Heiress.” In addition, she recorded a single with her father, Kiyamma, which is called Alright. Her latest album is “Twin Flame” and is available to stream on all platforms like YouTube, Spotify, and so on.
